Choosing the right Life Coach is essential for optimising the transformation you will inevitably experience. When writing for a professional publication this week, I talked about what qualifications I felt were important in order to be an effective Life Coach. I thought I would share this article with anyone who is thinking of working with a Coach, but is not sure where to start or who to contact as a starting point.
The decision is ultimately yours
We can all, on occasion, be ‘overly polite’. We can find it difficult to say ‘No, I don’t want to proceed’, and before we know it we are signed up! However, for the reasons I outline below, it is important that you do say no, it if it doesn’t feel right!
However, this doesn’t mean, as Coaches, that we won’t question your decision. A good Coach will work WITH you and stand FOR you at this point. This is because we are aware that sometimes, ‘I can’t afford that’ can actually mean ‘I don’t think I’m worth that’ or that the ‘light bulb’ moments you experience in the call can result in feelings of unease. UNEASE IS GOOD!! You have already taken the first step; don’t let fear stop you now!!
Rapport
In the article, I do acknowledge that qualifications are important in ensuring Coaches have the tools and techniques to professionally assist and support you, throughout your transformational journey. However, just as important is their life experience.
No coach should say that they have walked in your shoes, your experience is completely unique. However, for complete understanding and empathy (not sympathy), they need to have insight into the issues you are experiencing. Most coaches, myself included, will share their story where it is relevant to the client.
For the Coaching to be successful, you need to feel like you can share EVERYTHING in a safe, relaxed and confidential space. This requires TRUST and a positive relationship.
Coaching is also not all scary! We will reach deep into your mind, heart and soul which at times can be challenging, but can also include humour and sometime outragious laughter!!

I hope you find this information useful, and remember that EVERYONE will benefit from working with a Life Coach. There is still a misconception that you need to have experienced trauma or have a major life situation that needs fixing.
Life Coaching will definitely help in these instances, but also if you just want to LIVE YOUR BEST LIFE and MAXIMISE YOUR POTENTIAL!!
